MISCONCEPTION #1 – SMALL SPACES REQUIRE SMALL TILE.
This is the most common misconception that our design team sees. While most small tiles are often mosaic tiles and are beautiful, they are usually not ideal for an average-sized bathroom or powder room. In fact, using a larger tile will make the room feel bigger by lengthening the space and reducing the amount of grout lines.
MISCONCEPTION #2 – MARBLE OR NATURAL STONE IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN.
This can be true in certain circumstances. Since natural stone is porous, it requires a topical sealer during its installation. To make your sealer last longer, use proper care and maintenance. This includes using only gentle, non-abrasive, pH-neutral cleaners. It also means applying a fresh coat of sealer every 1-3 years, but this task is quite simple.
MISCONCEPTION #3 – CEMENT TILES ARE INDESTRUCTIBLE.
Cement tiles, also known as encaustic, Cuban, hydraulic, and pattern tiles, are popular because of their warmth and texture. That said, even though cement connotes strength, these tiles are made of white Portland cement which is a very porous product. They require a hardy sealer prior to grouting as well as the proper care and maintenance.
MISCONCEPTION #4 – BATHROOM AND BACKSPLASH TILES ARE A SEPARATE CATEGORY.
Customers often believe that there are tiles that are only for bathrooms or backsplash, but this is untrue. As long as the tile is appropriate for the application, different types of tile can be installed anywhere. Tile can be used as a feature wall in rooms other than the bathroom or kitchen, as a fireplace surround, on exterior surfaces, in pools, and more.
MISCONCEPTION #5 – TILE SHOULD BE GENERIC FOR RESALE PURPOSES.
